Climbing Tree Stand
Mobile hunting is key to success. I started out hunting out of permanent ladder stands that were setup before season. While I was seeing deer, the more mature bucks and does stayed away from my setup. I first purchased an API climbing stand. While it had some decent features, it was rather a pain to setup and not quiet at all. However, that stand opened my eyes to mobile hunting. I used my experiences and observations from sitting in my permanent stands, to then make a move with my climber. I became much more successful being mobile. I upgraded to a steel Summit treestand, and eventually a Summit Viper SD. Weighing in at a mere 19 lbs., the Summit Viper SD offers a highly mobile, quiet, safe, and reliable platform. After purchasing my Viper SD, It aided in the harvest of 5 deer, the first 4 times it went up a tree. I shot three bucks using it, and another MDO member harvested a buck and a doe in the same hunt with that stand.
