Feb. 5, 2026 – Deer Regulation Changes in the News

January 4, 2026

Made it out of the house today and got in a nice nature walk/squirrel hunt with two of my kids. We didn’t see any squirrels however I did get to show Rhett and Kensley how to identify some fresh deer beds as well as several different animal tracks. After being cooped up in the house at Christmas parties and sleepovers, it felt great to get out and get some fresh air. We have also named the official drink of MI DIY Outdoors. See recipe below.

  • Maple Brown Sugar Old Fashioned
  • Official Drink of MDO
  • Ingrediants:
    • 2 oz. Woodford Reserve
    • 1 tsp brown sugar
    • 1 tsp real maple syrup
    • 3-4 dashes angostura bitters
    • orange peel, zest and drop in
    • pour over big cube or sphere of ice
  • Enjoy in an official MDO whiskey glass for optimal enjoyment! (will be available from our merch store as soon as product is approved)

Happy New Years! New Year, New Us! MI DIY Outdoors website has been published! We have much more content to add in the coming months. We have also started building our merch store and ordering samples to try out, before approving sale. Its been a cold last couple of days with blizzard like conditions, snow, freezing rain, and hail. Today marks the end of the Michigan archery season, as well as the late antlerless firearm season. Tomorrow begins the Extended late antlerless firearm season running 1/2-1/11/26. Folks are making it out on the ice in northern Michigan and catching some nice fish. We look forward to doing some small game hunting and deer scouting in the coming weeks. We might even take advantage of the extended late antlerless season this year and attempt to put one more deer in the freezer.
